Chalutzim (Pioneers)
Entering Grades 1-6 in September

Campers will participate in a variety of activities geared to their age level. We encourage campers to try activities that they may not have had an opportunity to sample before.

We emphasize:

  • Making friends
  • Learning sportsmanship and teamwork
  • Developing swimming, sports and art skills
  • Caring for personal belongings and the environm

Giborim (Heroes)
Entering Grades 7-9 in September

Participants take part in all of our traditional Camp Ben Frankel programs but activities are geared to challenge their maturing minds and bodies. The special activities planned for this group will ensure a fun but safe program, incorporating watercraft, teams and ropes courses, rock climbing and camp crafts.

Counselors-In-Training (C.I.T.)
Entering Grade 10 in September

The program is especially geared to developing camp leaders. Special training sessions dealing with child care and child development, staff teamwork and creativity, Jewish identity, and values and personal responsibility are an important part of the program.

The C.I.T.'s begin the camp experience with a multi-day hike/camp-out backpacking experience. During the session C.I.T.'s will have other special outings, such as a pool party or movie night in nearby Carbondale or Herrin.

Special Programs

Each camp session features some special programs that may include visiting performers and scholar/artist-in-residence and field trips for roller skating, bowling, a play, a movie, minor league baseball games, fireworks or blueberry picking. The Israel Scout Friendship Caravan often visits and performs. each group will have an opportunity to sleep out or take part in a group hike in scenic national forests and wildlife refuges.
